Looking at the joy of these boys, one would not think their families live on less than a dollar a day. One would not think that these boys have no access to healthcare. One would not think these boys have never been to school. Yet, according to World Vision's article, "Facts about Democratic Republic of the Congo," for 60% of the DRC's population, this is just simply the life they know. The mineral rich land is exploited daily by the means of terror from rebel groups looking to acquire wealth. According to Fiona Lloyd- Davies' article “Why Eastern DR Congo Is 'Rape Capital of the World'," the Congo "is the worst place in the world for any woman to live." The constant choice for many women is whether or not to "stay home and face starvation or go to the fields and get raped." The atmosphere that overpowers the culture is the fight to survive another day, and the violent nature of the country makes it an unstable region to raise any child in.
music & cultureCulture in the DRC is found and strictly practiced in well respected tribes. Religion is practiced in a variety of ways throughout the region, but most commonly found to be Catholic or Protestant. Culture in the DRC is shown through the love of textiles, art, and music, for in many markets in the city, women can be found weaving designs and traditional handicrafts. According to iExplore's article, "Congo-History and Culture", Folk or Soukous music can always be heard playing throughout towns, typically amplified through instruments like the xylophone and harp.

beauty within the terrorNot every aspect of life in the DRC is misery and danger. It's main tourist attractions are because of its beautiful countryside that is alive with "alive with colorful flowers, flourishing fruits and luscious green plants" according to Harriet Constable's article: "The Democratic Republic of Congo: is it safe to visit?" Constable also states that climbing to extraordinary heights in the country's extravagant rainforests seeing some of the world's rarest creatures are a few common activities that tourists can partake in.
